A Dream that Changed America

By Paul A. Silli

Although Martin Luther King Jr. has been gone for more than the time that he lived, he is still loved and remembered. What a dream he gave all of us -– to live as Americans as equals regardless of the color of our skin. It is important to remember that Martin Luther King Jr’s.  birthday is January 15th which is a Federal Holiday to look back on his achievements.

Martin Luther King Jr’s. work helped unite our country and was key to overcoming the hatred that existed which was based on judging people by their race and cultural background.

To honor this great man, I thought it would be helpful to offer some facts to remind us about him. [1] Martin Luther King Jr. was born January 15, 1929. At 34 years old,  he made his I have a Dream Speech and at age 35, he won the Nobel Peace Prize. The legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. is incredible to study because he accomplished so much in such a short time. His speech, “I Have a Dream” told of children of all colors playing together side by side… united as people.

But Martin Luther King Jr. did see a true dream. He dreamed of it, and he made it happen not only through his work but also from the tragedy of his death at the early age of 39. He was so young, but accomplished so much.

Today, we observe his Birthday in which people get the respectful opportunity to ponder the goodness and cherish the dream he had so all citizens in America could have equality within their lives.
Martin Luther King, Jr. died on April 4, 1968. He will always be remembered as a man who changed the face of America.
